Welcome to Spring in Antarctica!

Well, not quite that far north... March 24th in Missouri and it's snowing. More than that, it is STILL snowing! They're thinking 8" or more by the time it is done today.

C R A Z Y!

I will say, it's the prettiest snow we have had in a few years!

It must be wet enough that it is really clinging to the trees.

Stay warm everyone! Have a blessed Sunday!

The End of Google Reader...

Am I the only one that uses Google Reader? I use it to look at the over 200 blogs that I follow. I just found out that it's going away here soon, July 1st to be exact.

After receiving an email, I've started going through all the blog posts that I starred and I'm pinning what I liked about them.

For my favorite blogs, I'm looking to find if each one has a Facebook page.

In addition, has a post about the top 5 alternative readers.

I'm checking into this Feedly for a replacement of Google Reader.

I don't know how the rest of you bloggers are able to keep up with blogs posts. Our internet is rather slow, so pulling up the actual blog page that uses large pictures takes a
some time. If you multiply that time by 100 posts per day, I would be spending WAY TOO much time on the computer. With the reader, I can scan down all new posts and if a picture catches my eye, I can stop and read it or click on their post to go to their webpage.

Of course, I have a small list of favorite blogs that I book marked so I can go directly visit their blogs at least once a week. That would be the other bloggers that are so sweet to check in on my blog once in awhile!

Well, I guess I'm done complaining. I have a few months to get through all those saved blog posts and to move over to a new reader. It's just the older I get, the less I like change!

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Faux Roman Shades

Last week, I decided to drag myself out of the hole I was in and be productive. I have a long list (like four pages in a Word document) of things that need to be done around the house. Since we are a little cash poor this month, I'm trying to work on projects that I already have the supplies needed.

This leads me to our Master Bedroom. I've been working on it for awhile but it still isn't ready for a reveal. Soon, very soon, I hope. The bedroom has a vaulted ceiling so we hung the drapes high. This left a bare space between the curtain rod and the frame of the window as you see below:

Excuse the very poor lighting and picture. I took it just before Mr. Creative started to hang my shade! Here is an after shot.

I had some fabric in a sort of plaid print that had the colors that are in the room. Blue with brown and cream. Mr. Creative made me two 1x2 pieces of wood the length I needed to hang past the window frame but hidden under the curtain panels.

This definitely isn't a tutorial. This idea was in my head and it came together as I went along, so there aren't any "in progress" pictures. Basically, I hemmed the sides and bottom, pressed the top over and pulled the fabric up in two sections to make the folds. I tacked the folds in three places to hold and then pressed the shade smooth. We then stapled the folded over top to the board and Mr. Creative screwed it into the wall. Of course there was a lot of measuring to get them even for sewing and for hanging!

I really like the way they turned out. It gives the windows a more finished look.

Here is the other window. As you can see, privacy isn't an issue for us so they are stationery and not very long.

You can see part of the table I painted the other day in the picture above.

I'm very happy with the way they turned out. The room is slowly coming together. I ordered some dark brown Briwax to try on the white part of the table on Mr. Creative's side of the bed. His dresser has to be painted as well. I finished the armoire but haven't showed it yet.

I hope this little project inspires someone to try something they aren't quite sure how to do. It's amazing how things can turn out when you take your time and try. This project took most of the afternoon.

Thanks for stopping by and have an awesome weekend!

Painting While the Sun Shines!

Here in the Midwest, it has been gray and cloudy with snow or rain for what seems like a month. It was raining this morning but by noon the sun was out and it was 60 degrees!

I thought I better use my time outside wisely. Using my brute strength, I dragged this little table out to the garage. Good thing it's made of pine! I sanded and cleaned her up before deciding what color to paint.

The plan was to stain the top dark and paint the base off white. However, the previous owner must have spilled candle wax on the top. No amount of sanding could get it out of the bare wood. Of course I tried to stain it but it came out spotty.

Skipping on to the base while I figured out what to do with top and shelf, I decided on Heirloom White by Rustoleum for the base.

Mr. Creative said the stain that I tried looked black so why not just paint it black. So black it became quite quickly.

So my well built but ugly table that I bought on Craigslist for $40 turned into a sharp looking piece of furniture for our bedroom.

I will take better pictures once I finish the black with some wipe on poly and put her in our bedroom!

Have you been busy while a sneak peek of spring happened?

Remember to set your clocks forward tonight or you will miss most of church in the morning!!

Movie Night - Safe Haven

I don't get to go to the movies very often. Not a luxury that we spend on ourselves. Most of our movies are from the wonderful Netflix.

However, today I met a friend for lunch and a movie. She lives near Lake of the Ozarks and I live near St. Louis so we meet half way at a small town in Missouri that has a cinema that costs $6. I was able to get a ticket, small popcorn and soda for less than $12! That is much more affordable!

We went to see Safe Haven. I really enjoyed it and I'm sure most of you have already seen it!

I always loved Julianne Hough on Dancing with the Stars. Her and her brother, Derek, are so talented. I miss her on the show but think she did a great job in this movie. Of course, Josh Duhamel is rather attractive and talented as well!

One of my favorite things from the movie is his house. This house is what I call a Victorian style farmhouse that I just love. There is just something about the bay window, little porch and metal roof that says peaceful and home to me.

I wonder if Mr. Creative would build it as a retirement home for us?????

Well, hope everyone is having a good weekend! I'm ready to be lazy now!

Family Room Mood Board

Do you start dreaming of working on another room before you have finished the last one? I'm so bad about doing that as you will soon see.

Our master bedroom is at a standstill because I need to paint and stain a table as well as the chest of drawers. Not something I want to do inside the house during the winter.

Since it has been snowing, I decided to do a little planning for my family room makeover. I haven't been happy with what I have done in my family room. I didn't plan it out and began trying to bring what I had together. I have to plan...for months! I am starting over using a few key pieces that I have to keep!

I follow Sarah at The Yellow Cape Cod and love her designs and style. I have been studying her mood boards for some time now. She has a reasonably priced design service for what I call "real people"! I still can't afford to do it so I keep plugging away with my minimal budget using her ideas for inspiration.

My other problem is that our style has to be a little more rustic. With a family of all men who hunt, there are a few trophies around that need to be incorporated into the room.

Enough is what I've come up with so far!

Please tell me your thoughts. It seems to be coming together better now that I have it on a mood board instead of inside my head giving me headache!

Have a wonderful weekend!
