Christmas Decor Past

How about a blast from Christmas past? Since I am just starting my decorating, I feel a little left out when I see all the beautiful decorations on your blogs!

Last year, we only put up the tree because I was laid up with a broken foot and trying to get around using a knee scooter. Not fun during the holidays. These pictures are from two Christmas' ago. Enjoy!

Come on up to our porch and rest a minute!

As you step into the foyer...

look to the right towards our formal dining room.

Moving on to the kitchen.

Last but not least, our family room.

I thought the tree was beautiful that year...

I hope you enjoyed this visit into Christmas past. When I get something done this year, I will post the pictures soon.

Have a wonderful day!

Master Bedroom Remodel in process...

There are many things going on here at Creative Decorating! You would think I would focus on one room at a time, but Noooooooooo! Since the master bedroom and bathroom don't have a door between them, it seemed better to do both at the same time. As far as painting, anyway.

About seven years ago, we painted everything in neutral colors trying to blend our 1990's fixtures in order to sell our house. Well, the housing market started to decline and we weren't able to sell because it takes a special buyer to want a house that is across a low water bridge on a hill in 14 acres of woods . Beautiful as it may sound, it isn't for everyone.

I tried to live with the neutral palette of the house, but for me it had no life or personality. The light neutral colors of the farmhouse look are what everyone is leaning towards now days. However, it just isn't for me. Color makes me happy and serene.

From 1994-1996, with two small baby boys, I planned and decorated all the rooms while Mr. Creative was building our dream home himself. I LOVED this house and probably would have left it this way awhile longer if we hadn't decided to put it up for sale. Remember, I was VERY young and it was the 1990's!

Excuse the picture of a picture!

Original Before

From there, we toned it down in 2005 with softer tones that would blend with the hunter green carpet.

Current Before

Makes me laugh to see those sad lamps. I was trying to decide if the crystal would work in here. Luckily, they moved on! It wasn't awful but it definitely wasn't great by a long shot!

Let's jump ahead to today. Blue is my favorite color, unlike Steven Tyler who prefers pink. Oops, I kind of went off topic revealing my fascination with Aerosmith music to all of you! I was saying. I like me some blue! I have painted the bedroom two shades darker than our bathroom that I showed you in this progress post. I wanted a bedroom that is pretty and calming for me but somewhat masculine for Mr. Creative. I have so many things swirling around in my mind that I had to try to put it on paper somewhere. The following mood board was the result of that effort:

I think I got the paint color right!

The walls are painted, the panels are hung and a few pictures and accessories have been placed. But it still isn't done. I have an upholstered headboard and bench to finish, a dresser and table to paint, as well as a gallery wall to plan. However, as it comes together, I get excited and want to share it with SOMEONE!

Here is a glimpse inside our bedroom at the small corner that is finished. I like it...A LOT! It makes me feel relaxed. Isn't that what your bedroom is supposed to do for you?

A close up of my vintage clock I found at Goodwill for $2 and a Hobby Lobby 80% off clearance container with a chippy finish. It might have cost me $6. The glass mosaic vase and hydrangeas have been around so long that I don't remember when or where I bought them!

Remember when I said I have a table to paint? Here is my $30 Craigslist beauty. She was made in Mexico, brought across the border to Texas where the lady I bought it from had her shipped to Missouri. I wouldn't have paid $400 for it but I will take it for $30! I plan to stain the top and the shelf. I want to give the rest a better looking distressed finished. She will be beautiful again!

The bad thing when you buy top quality carpet is that you tire of it long before it ever wears out!! That hunter green carpet is GOING after the first of the year. Hand scraped oak floors will be replacing that carpet!

Well, that is enough secrets to reveal for today. Please come back and check up on my progress! I'm tired but I try to keep going. Mr. Creative has been hunting every weekend so I try to get as much done as I can while he is gone.

Bathroom Vanity Update

I hope everyone had a delicious and family filled Thanksgiving today! We ate plenty of good food, dozed off a little and enjoyed the little ones.

I'm excited about my progress in our master bathroom and wanted to share a few pictures with everyone. Painting the counter/sink a soft white was a risk and I'm thrilled with how it turned out. I also painted the cabinet black to have the contrast. Not sure why the walls look like two different shades of blue. The area around the mirror is the closer shade of grayish blue.

I'll give more details later about everything I did but basically there isn't much that didn't get painted! The light fixtures above the sink were painted a bronze finish and I replaced the globes. All the towel bars/hangers were painted ORB. I will take better pictures in the daylight, too!

Wanting something custom to match the window panels I purchased, I was able to combine parts of two drapes into one shower curtain. There is still more to do like pictures, shelving, painting doors, etc. but this is a start.

Things are looking pretty and slowly coming together into what I've been picturing in my mind. There are a few things that I had to modify to make them work for our space but in the end, I think it will work out well for us. I promise to show more later.

However, here is a reminder of what this sink looked like before...

Another glimpse of the after. Oops! I forgot to put the lid down. Sorry!

Stay tuned for more updates!

I am linking up to One Project at a Time at A Bowl Full of Lemons!

Have a great day!

Cleaning Floor Grout in Our Bathroom

Two posts in a week! First time that has happened in a year or more! It feels good to do a little blogging again.

As I showed you in my earlier post, I'm working on a budget remodel of our master bedroom and bath. A lot has been done but the rooms aren't finished yet. One item on the to do list was to get the grout cleaned up. All the steam, lint and hairspray played havoc on the floor grout.

I can't believe I am going to show everyone my "dirty secret" but hey, let's live on the wild side! Here is the embarrassing before picture:

Pinterest had many different recipes on how to clean the grout using ingredients most of us have on hand. I used the water, baking soda & ammonia solution combined with a good old fashioned tooth brush! The next picture is during the process that shows the dramatic difference.

I let the solution soak for just a minute before scrubbing with a tooth brush. It didn't take much scrubbing but crawling around on the tile floor was hard on this aging mature body! When I was all done, the floor looked almost as good as new!

There are more items to be checked off my remodel list but what remains has diminished. That is a good feeling! With Thanksgiving time off coming up, I may have some extra time to get the rest of the room done.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Master Bedroom and Bath In Process

Wow! Blogger has changed some since my last post! Hope I am able to get my pictures posted!

Thanks again to all of you that have taken the time to say "Hi" and wondered how I am. I can't say I will be posting much but did want to do a few posts to let you know what I have been up to lately.

After severely breaking my foot a year ago, I am just now starting to get back to home projects. I am working on our master bedroom/bathroom remodel...on a tight budget. I have been purchasing and collecting decor items for almost three years now.

Here is a boring sight of what the bedroom looked like in it's before state.

Pretty sad, wouldn't you say? Well here is a sneak peek at the first thing I have done...PAINT!

It is a refreshing change! Lighting isn't the best at night but I couldn't wait to take a picture. You can see all the "stuff" laying around because we all know what a disaster zone it becomes when you start on a project.

Here is a picture of the before on our master bathroom.

Nothing too exciting there either. That hunter green sink top and honey oak cabinet was all the rage when we built the house in the early 90's! I tried to tone everything down but after living with it this way for quite a few years, I have had enough. So, I painted the walls, hung my curtain AND since I couldn't afford to replace the sink, I PAINTED it!

I did research on painting cultured marble sinks and found the tub refinishing kits you can buy will work on these fiberglass sink tops. Obviously, this is a work in process! It has to cure for 3 days so I am going to paint the cabinet during those three days.

I know this is just a teaser but I was so excited that I had to share and couldn't wait until it was done! I promise to post more as it is completed and a tutorial along the way.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
