I Took a Fall!

Guess what happens when you have windows like this...

Then you decide to do this...

So you have one of these to climb...

But you have too much on your mind and don't pay attention to make sure it is braced so you end up breaking this...

I rode the ladder as it slid down the wall from about 10 feet up and landed on the floor. I landed flat on my feet however one foot was on the rung of the ladder and the right foot was just under the rung of the ladder. So with my weight, the weight of the ladder and gravity slamming into the top of my foot, it broke 4 of the metatarsal bones a total of 6 places.

I had surgery and now it is held together with 10 screws. I am doing okay as I didn't hurt anything else (except my pride). I will will be laid up for 3-4 months and it will be a year or more before I know what I am stuck with but it is all okay. I am alive and healthy and the foot will heal. I'm sure eventually I will figure out how to create and paint things while on a knee scooter!

Here is my new transportation!

I will keep you updated!
Bonnie

  2. OH, NO!!!!!! OUCH! So sorry that happened. I always have a fear to that happening to me and that is why I send Doug up high. Even his ladder started slipping one time and scared him to death. He doesn't even like heights. So glad it wasn't worse than it was. I hope you weren't home alone when this happened.

  3. I feel for ya! I just got my cast off after breaking my foot. It sucks. I have this very pretty orthopedic shoe to wear now. Take it easy. Don't rush it though. I know you'll feel like it. One good thing though is that a healed broken bone is stronger than a regular bone. This is the third time that I have broken this foot. A skate board works great for getting around low!

  5. Oh, Bonnie- I am sooo sorry to hear this...but I am glad you weren't all the way up and cane slamming down...at least it was cushioned a bit by the slide down the wall.

Feet are slow to heal so don't get panicky when it takes a long time to heal. God bless you, Bonnie! I hope you aren't in too much pain! xo Diana

I hated to read this tonight. I hadn't checked out your blog in so long due to working and visiting my Dad in a nursing home. I will check on your progress more often. Prayers for you to heal quickly Bonnie.

  8. Oh Bonnie! I am so sorry to hear this! Thank God it was not more! I don't mean that lightly because I understand what you are going through somewhat. My husband broke his metatarsal in 2 places a few years ago on July 4th. Luckily he didn't need surgery but had a cast for a while then a boot. It was very rough for all of us for awhile. I will keep you and your family in my prayers! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

  9. Thank God that you are o.k. other than the whole breaking your foot thing!!! That is when you hire someone! Heck, why even clean that bad boy. It is too high up.. this is all coming from someone who has no problem going up things, it is the coming down! How is this affecting your job? Are you able to go to work? bless your heart. Do what the doctor says and heal quickly!

  10. Oh dear! It was just a year ago that I broke my foot; so I know what you're up against. I'll pray that you won't have a lot of pain and that friends and neighbors will come through to help with meals, cleaning, keeping you company and all the other things that you'll need.

Chin up! Stiff upper lip! You will recover.

  17. OMG, Bonnie! I am so sorry to hear that this happened. Thankfully, my fear of heights keeps me from going higher than two rungs on any ladder. I hope you recover quickly. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

  19. Wow! I'm glad you're okay! That is scary. I have those tall ceilings in two of my rooms in my new house. As much I want to paint them a different color, there is no way that I can get up there. I'll have to save my pennies for a professional painter.

    Thanks for visiting my blog!
