In all my Red-ness!

I am very late for Jenny's party but thought I would try to put something together. We have been trying to finish up enough on my niece's house so that she can move in this weekend. So I am very tired!

Anyway, back to the Alphabe-Thursday Rainbow Red Summer School Party!!!

I have ALOT of red in my house. Maybe too much but it is a color that I am so drawn to for decorating and some clothes! However, I only wear red when I am prepared to stand out because we all know how red is an eye magnet color!!!

First up is my stair landing. It is hard to get a picture unless you take it from the 1st floor! I painted this accent wall red and I like how the red books pop from the bookcase. This scale crystal thing belonged to my mother. I haven't had the heart to do anything else with it but set it here. It needs a good cleaning and it is a little gaudy but she loved it!

Here we have the rooster and checked fabric that I have waiting for kitchen curtains to be made!! Look at all that red!! Love those roosters!

I also painted the fireplace wall as an accent in red. It really makes the colors of the picture stand out! I didn't show you the full 2 story wall as I wasn't sure everyone was ready to see the deer haning up there! In time, I will show you the family room!!

My dining room has the most red! It is everywhere from the walls to the floor! I will spare you this time and just show a couple things! I love the red walls!

These are Avon Cape Cod salt and pepper shakers that my sister gave me. They look good with the red toile wallpaper in the china cabinet!

Let's go outside because there is a lot of red there!! First is Old Glory! We all love our country and there is nothing better than red, white and blue!!

I had to get the red mulch! The boys put some rocks along for a border to make it easier for them to weedeat!

On the other side by the basement door is more red mulch with marigolds and hostas. Love the color of the plants next to the red mulch!

Of course, here is the deck that I showed you before after I stained it in the redwood! Love it!

I hope you enjoyed my tour of red around my house and hope you stop by and look at the other's over at Ms. Matlocks class!!

Master Bedroom Dreaming!

I have been planning our future remodel of our master bedroom. Of course, I have been looking through images to get ideas. I love color and it has to have a warm feeling! I am wanting our master bedroom to be a retreat where we can relax and enjoy each other away from the demands of raising teenagers and assisting our elderly parents. I want something dramatic and romantic but still masculine for Mr. Creative!!

I found these images that each had something that spoke to me and that I wanted in the room!

I love the ceiling. I want to paint our vaulted ceiling in a bronze/copper metallic!

This says romance, but not what my honey, Mr. Creative had in mind!! This is at Disney Resort! I want a "fainting couch" chaise to read and relax on!

This is more of my hubby's idea! I definitely want a fireplace but know it won't be as massive as this one! We have oak trim throughout to incorporate as well!

I saw this before on Rate My Space website. I just love the lights glowing under the bed!

This definitely has the rustic and masculine feeling!

This is probably more feasible for a fireplace in our bedroom! I love the brown color scheme!

This is the set up of our room with the vaulted ceiling and windows on each side of the bed. However, we have a semi circle window above the bed and more room between the window and the bed. I definitely want a chandelier!

We will probably paint the blue in our room since the bedding is brown/blue/gold. I like the arrangement of this room with the pictures, lamps and different nightstands.

I have to have this saying in our room somewhere! It just says everything about our marriage!
Again, love the brown!

I have been planning this room for so long. It is going to be close to the last room finished. Isn't that the way it goes? We leave the master retreat for last because no one else will see it but us!

Sweet Dreams!!

Help with Lamp Transformation!

I can't believe I am going to show you my family room in process! Please remember it is in process! I am still trying to decide what to do and how to bring it together. Also remember this is real life and I have two teenage boys to pick up after (or nag them until they do it)!

I have been working on this dresser.

It is now painted with some distressing and glazing. I am going to do the poly on the top and put the handles on yet. It is really bigger in the room than I thought it would be! I think I am going to watch for a smaller sofa as this furniture is way too big and I don't want the print in this room either.

I had two lamps ready to go on it and found that they were just too big and tall to fit there. So off to the thrift store I went and found two of these lamps for $2.50 each! They are rather yellowed and chipped some but I figured I could paint them up just fine and buy new lamp shades!

First I thought I would just try some glaze to accent the texture. So I just did one to see. What do you think?

I'm not sure if I like it. I am asking my blog friends for help. Should I paint them or does the glaze look fine? In our family room, I am going for an eclectic mix of traditional, rustic, french country with some old world thrown in along with it! Doesn't quite sound right but I am hoping to pull it off!

So tell me what you think! To paint or glaze or both??????

Thrifty Finds from Around Town!

Yesterday was the first day that I could actually do whatever I wanted. Unfortunately, I woke up with a sinus headache and went to the doctor first! Yes, I have been fighting a sinus infection for months now and it finally won out! Much better now!

I decided to go thrift store shopping, Hobby Lobby clearance, Home Goods and Hancock Fabrics. I will start with the thrift store finds since this is Debbiedoos party day for thrifty goods! I went to 3 Goodwill stores and 2 Salvation Army stores.

I normally don't look at clothes because I am almost 6' tall and pretty thin. Things don't usually fit me straight off the rack. However, a dress caught my eye (too fancy) and it got me looking for light weight cool dresses to wear in this heat! I am tired of shorts and would like to look cute occasionally when I leave the comforts of home or for my honey when he comes home from work! I found 4 cute ones. The first two need to be hemmed so they will be just slightly above my knee. They were all $4.50 each and are still like new!

The red one is strapless and I have a light weight summer sweater in white that I can wear with it! It was so cute on!

I am a huge fan of black and white so I immediately fell for this one!

They are all so lightweight and cool. Some were Jones New York brands. So for $13.50, I have 4 dresses!

When we purchased the $15 dresser, they had leftovers from their sale and we bought a few items cheap! Each of these outdoor lights were $1. I am going to paint them and use on the deck door and one for outside the basement door. One looks rough but it was still in the box. Paint will fix it!

These two plant holders were .25 total so I figured I could paint them and line them with the brown plant bed stuff! (Not sure what it is called)

This large planter was only .25 and I figure I can paint it. My hubby thought it looked hideous but I told him to trust me, for .25 I can make it BEAUTIFUL!

Then off to Hobby Lobby! They were having 80% off their remaining garden stuff and I found these two planters with the perfect color of red in them for our deck! $3.20 each!!! Snatched!!

I also found this chicken that just called my name for $6. Not sure where to put him but he kind of looks cute here on my mantle!!

Then I hit the clearance at the fabric section and found the perfect checked backing fabric for my future kitchen curtains. Here you see the rooster fabric I bought on ebay a year ago and the new backing fabric. Good match???? It was $4 a yard and was 54" wide so it is a perfect fit. They only had 6 yards left which is exactly what I needed!! It was meant to be!

So there you have it for my thrifty shopping adventures!! Please go on over to debbiedoos for her garage salen party and see all the treasures that others have found!

I am also linking up with Coastal Charm's Nifty Thrifty Tuesday!! Come on over and see what everyone has to show!!

I always like to join in with Bonnie over at House of Grace for her Twice Owned Tuesday party!!

Foreclosure Rehab House Update

I know you are all wanting to see the progress of all of our hard work on our niece's house. I thought I would post some before and so far after pictures! It has been almost a month so it feels good to be able to show some progress!

Remember the before of the kitchen? We tried to remove the border and ended up using joint compound and Kilz over it. It would not come off all the way. My honey removed that strange bulk head that led over to a wall oven on the right.

Here is the current after. My niece's mom (my SIL), niece and I worked hard on these cabinets. We removed the wood laminate, used lacquer thinner to remove the contact cement, sanded A LOT, primed and painted. My SIL is crazy with the sander! My niece spray painted all the hinges and handles bronze to match her new lights. My husband's older brother has put in new window sills, trim around the cabinets and exterior doors. He is the door man! We still have a way to go but it is a start!

On this side you can see the before of the cabinet doors with the laminate on them. You can't tell in this picture but that lower half of the wall is actually linoleum glued to the wall with wall paper over it. We removed it and then was left with tore up walls.

I did a skim coat on the lower walls and we are going to hang bead board wallpaper to hide the imperfections there. The windows have been painted with high gloss white and look so much better. The ceiling is painted but has a lot of rough areas.

I forgot to take a before picture of what was in this corner previously. It was a wall oven with cabinets above and below with a bulkhead connecting it to the cabinets on the other side of the room. My honey removed the oven and bulk head, replaced missing drywall and has framed in a pantry for her.

Just a rough shot of the before in the living room. Those hideous vertical blinds were ripped out immediately! I know, none of you like any vertical blinds anywhere either!!

My hubby replaced drywall where there were holes in the wall and I patched with joint compound the best I could. The walls are pretty rough but once painted and her things are in the room, it won't be as noticeable. The window looks so much better with that white paint!

This is going to be her bedroom temporarily until we can get the other two bedrooms done. That is fake paneling! No grooves...however, we couldn't get the waviness out of the paneling so now that it is painted you see it when the light hits it. Also some joints just couldn't be repaired enough to hide.

With the trim paint and final coat on the walls, it is so much better. With her furniture and curtains, most of the issues won't be noticeable!

The bathroom....well they found mold but luckily not any rotten wood. This room was completely gutted to the studs and sub floor. I would say the room size is only 5x7 which is a tight fit for a bathroom that has a door!

New everything except the bathtub and toilet. My BIL and my husband have done all the electric and plumbing. They are so handy! I am hoping we can get a refinishing kit to work on the cast iron tub and fix the finish. Never done that so I will have to read up on it. A family friend is coming today to tape the joints to get it ready for painting.

There are some very talented and hard working people in this family and we are all doing what we can to make it a nice livable space! Her grandma has been helping with priming walls and trim but I like it best when she cooks nice dinners and brings them over for us in the evenings!

Hopefully by the end of August, she will get to move in. I know she is anxious and as she is seeing it come together it makes it seem like there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Well, I am off for a few days to work around the house and finish my projects! I hope everyone has a great day!
