My Weekend Trip to Quincy, IL!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend so far!  I went to Quincy, IL to see my aunt this weekend.  Of course being the bad blogger I am, I forgot my camera!  So I am sharing pictures from the web of what I have seen there!  My dad and his family are from Quincy.  Beautiful historic town.  It is usually just gorgeous in the spring and fall.  Enjoy!

First up is downtown Quincy.  Not too much going on down there now that most businesses have moved on the outside of town.  I love the old architecture!

The old drugstore:

There are so many different styles of homes from the 1800's.  I just love these old homes and wish I could afford to buy and restore one to it's glory.

I think this is the tourist center now but was built to look like a home from the middle east.  Quite unique for overlooking the dirty Mississippi!

I think the bridge is even an interesting design!

Well, I didn't get to go thrifting or do anything fun this time.  We did eat at Maid Rite which is a local original crumbled hamburger place.  Most of my time was spent visiting a family friend who has last stage cancer.  Such a sad disease.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to get back to working on the rest of my pillows!!

Have a wonderful day!

I Did a Little Project!

Oh how I miss all of you!!  Thank you so much for all the wonderful emails checking up on me!  I have been so dedicated to looking for a job that blogging has fallen to the wayside.  Still no job yet, but I am hopeful to get a part time accounting assistant position with a wonderful lady that used to work with me at Citi.  They won't be hiring until after Thanksgiving so I hope to get another interview next month.  I am hoping in the mean time to get some temporary work.  It has been a very humbling and frustrating experience, but I know that I'm not alone in my search.

On to happier things!  I took some time a few weeks ago and made some pillows out of the fabric I showed everyone from a clearance sale at Hobby Lobby.  I figure these two pillows that are 23 x 23 cost me about $3 TOTAL!!

I made them large and stuffed them with fill from old pillows that were falling apart.  We lay on the couch and actually use these pillows, so they had to be comfy!

I think they look nice here on our new to us sofa!  They will look even better with the next set of pillows I am making!

I found some solid and a striped material at JoAnns to make accent pillows.  These will be for looks only!  I hope to do some sewing today using this fabric.

In addition, I have been looking for a red recliner for our family room that would be cheap enough for me to afford.  I wanted one that looks more like a regular chair, rather than a recliner.  I found this one for $35 on Craigslist last week.

She isn't the perfect color but will work until someday when I can afford something better.  It is more of a wine red than the maroon red we have in the room but it seems to blend okay!  I think it will look better when I get this upholstery fabric on the old chairs.

If I can just get up the gumption to get these poor rascals reupholstered.  I am so scared to start and not sure why.  That happens to me a lot!

To the left you see the end table that I have been working on.  I am having a hard time deciding if I like it this way.  It would probably look much better once the chairs are done so I keep holding off from putting a finish on it in case I change my mind!!

I have been spending a lot of time on ebay purchasing myself a new work wardrobe.  All my work clothes weren't fitting very well and I decided to sell my clothes and buy something new to me.  I have gotten some great buys on new or next to new clothes from The Limited, Express, Nordstrom and Ann Taylor.  Nice pants for $13 that have a 33 or 34 inch inseam for me!!  Hard to find at that price!

So I figure I should do a modeling post with my new clothes once I receive everything!  That should be interesting!!!

So take care for now and I will try to get back to blogging!!  Thank you for being patient with me!!!

Have a wonderful day!

New Roof!

I must say, I wasn't sure what to expect after the roofers were gone.  Many people have told us what  mess they had from their roofers, how loud and crude the workers can be and how we will be picking up shingles and nails for months.  We have had contractors in the past do work for us occasionally and we are always a little disappointed because others don't treat a job like it is their own house.  However, this is one of the few times that I can actually say we were pleasantly surprised!  Not only did they protect all of our outdoor furniture, windows, plants and shrubs, they also left the place looking better than it did when they arrived!

The yard was raked, and magnetic stick things used to find all nails.  They used a blower on all the sidewalks, driveway, porch and deck.  They then took the hose and sprayed the sidewalks and driveway.  After Mr. Creative got home from work, we both went up on the roof to see straight lines and proper vent covers as well as they fixed a roof line problem that we had since the house was built.  To top it all off, they did it all in 5 1/2 hours!  Even though they had about 13 guys working on it, I still think that is amazing!

Here is a picture of the house this summer.  You can kind of see the curling shingles.  It was in much worse condition than this picture displays.

Here is the after!  We got the architectural shingles and I love the textured look they have.  I am really happy with the color, too.

The shingles I chose had black and gray with some barn red that would match the shutters.  However it is hard to see any red once they are on the roof!!  Here is a zoom shot I took!

I took these pictures yesterday after they left and the shingles hadn't started to smooth out yet.  They already look better this morning and he said it would only take a few days of sunshine this week to flatten them all out.  Luckily we are to have 5 days of upper 70's and sunshine!

Now, maybe I can focus on more projects!!  I made some pillows for my sofa and I found more material to make a few more.  That is the plan for today!!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!!

A Lot of Nailing Going On!

Well, the roofers are here.  13 men showed up at 6:20 this morning to remove our old roof, fix some plywood and put on a new roof!  It is VERY noisy here!  It looked like a caravan of trucks coming up our driveway!  Mr. Creative is at work and wanted to see the progress so he asked if I would put some pictures on my blog!

Within an hour, they had all the patio furniture moved into the yard, HUGE tarps hung around the house, plywood in front of the lower windows, all the old shingles off and the rotten plywood removed.  I was quite impressed!  Here are some snap shots of the four sides of the house.  Our poor dog is freaked out in the garage!

I will show more pictures when they are done!!

Have a great day!

Lady Antebellum at the Fox Theatre!

I just got home from the Lady A concert and couldn't sleep.  Thought I would start this post and see if I get tired!!  Since it is midnight and I have to get up at 6:30, I should go to bed!!

Tonight we went to the Fox Theatre to see Lady Antebellum in concert with David Nail opening for them.  Unfortunately, David Nail didn't have good enough lighting so my pictures didn't come out.  He does have a powerful voice.  Here is a reminder of what the Fox looks like!

The acoustics were remarkable!  Here is a picture of me and my concert friends!!  That's me on the right in case you didn't remember!!

Here is some shots from the concert!  They were just awesome!  What voices all three of them have!

Okay, I'm going to bed now!!  I will post this in the morning!
